Does anyone have or know where to get some shareware, or freeware to make simple well bore schematics? Casing points, hole size, cmt, general lithology, that sort of thing for basic illustration purposes.

Rockbit
you could try the SLB iHandbook, a digital redbook for the usual tubular data etc but it does have useful little schmatic program where you can generate well casing profiles, calculate displacements and volumes. It does not add in formation tops but those could be added with a bit of creative powerpointing or somesuch of a screen shot. It is a litle idiosyncratic and takes some gettting used to, probably to be expected really.

You might also try the Halliburton eRedbook, the latest version on their website is pretty slick, lots of calculators as well.

I have used powerpoint as an easy basic resource. I have a template I can send you with basics.
For more complex stuff you then need to advance to Visio where there are many templates to resource for this.

I like simple MS Excel for drawing. You have to open the drawing tools. View, Toolbars, Drawing. Lots different lines sizes and colors etc.
