Dear Members & Visitors:
BakerHughes Tech Update:
Baker Atlas Performs Borehole Imaging in Oil-Based Mud in Canadian Horizontal Well.
Baker Atlas Canada recently performed a landmark Short Axis, Slimhole Pipe Conveyed Logging job.
Typically, the operator drills its directional holes with a water-based mud system but changed to an environmentally safe oil-based mud to promote borehole stability.
BA was chosen to log the well for two primary reasons:
1) the EARTH Imager™ service is capable of imaging in oil-based mud and 2) BA was able to predict the success of the operation by performing a comprehensive feasibility study.
The well presented a significant challenge because the 156-mm (6 in.) borehole had a dogleg severity of 14° per 30 m at 88° deviation.
Utilizing the Cerberus software, the BA team designed a tool string, encompassing the EARTH Imager/CBIL/ZDL/CN string with special diameter rollers and delivered superior borehole images.
Best regards, RAD
