Thanks for the recent update, Delboy. I would be interested in reading more recent information such as this, as conditions recently have had to change. (More applicable would be recently-initiated work assignments, instead of rates which were perhaps negotiated during the boom). I'm curious to know how it is out there now.
thanks in advance, Steve

Steve(Aka Walrus) DSM's with Chevron..consultants & chevron hands all work 28 x 28 commuting...there has been no payrise for consultants for 2 years. We were in line for one last year but it was cancelled by the Kuwaiti partners. They reckoned they could hire our darker skinned brothers for half our current dayrate.

Aussiebill and the others who generously contributed a year ago, it would be very helpful if you could possibly find the time to update, given the current market.

My own personal experience as Senior Toolpusher on moored Deepwater Drillship is base US$14380 quarterly KPI bonus of 10% base and Half yearly retention Bonus of 15% of base ... No payrises in past 2 years now but no pay reductions in bonus payments either.

Rig Manager Angola, Take home after tax 14000usd/month + accomodation and medical, insurance etc + bonus 15%+ retention of about 3000 usd per month paid every year. adds up to about
170000 usd per annum + bonus of about 20000 (if lucky)+ 30000 retention if stay for long term.
Can anyone compare this and advise if this is a good package and is tune with current terms for africa????

Leonard, This is a great forum to share, compare and be aware. however most fugures canbe confusing can we establish some kind of a reporting format here say Base salary befor tax, geographic top up if applicab;e, hardship allowance, accomodation (for shore based positions), travel alloeance? bonus reteion etc....
This way it woyuld be easy to have a good scale which gives a TRUE salary ....

Hi golfman, So DS guysshould be paid!! It is a tough job. I remember as a new TP being shown around a potential DST setup in IRAN and shown all the reasons it was not going to be allowed. And it wasn't!!!! If you are in this situation, then you deserve to be!!!! Dealing with the boss then is youur problem. They put you there for a very good reason. I admire all the guys who have made DS. Been offered myself but dont feel confident enough yet.

32 years experience. Drilling Fluids Supervisor / superintendent Minimum $1200 with average $1500 a day door to door, Business class over 5 hour flights. New offer of $1700 a day & waiting! Unless your desperate do not drop your day rate. You may lose some work but it is easily made up with the higher day rate in no time.
The best things in life are free as long as you have money!
